Dr. Andrew Isaksen, Chiropractor in Salem OR

Dr. Andrew Isaksen’s journey to becoming a chiropractor is anything but ordinary. Growing up, he had his sights set on becoming an architect. It wasn’t until a life-changing experience during a brief hiatus from college that he discovered his true calling. While visiting his chiropractor back home, Dr. Isaksen was encouraged to attend Palmer College of Chiropractic’s homecoming in Davenport, Iowa—a pivotal event that shifted his career trajectory.

At Palmer’s Homecoming, he found himself captivated by the stories of miraculous healings shared by seasoned chiropractors. The idea of being able to alleviate pain and improve lives in such a direct and immediate way resonated deeply with him. “I got really excited about the idea of being able to help people in that way,” Dr. Isaksen recalls. This newfound passion led him to pursue a Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic, where chiropractic was founded and developed. Soon after, he returned to his roots in Oregon to start his own practice.

Building a Practice on Faith and Community Support

Starting a business during the height of the 2009 economic downturn was no small feat. Dr. Isaksen faced numerous challenges, from securing funds to finding the right location and equipment. But with faith, perseverance, and the support of his community, NW Family Chiropractic was born. “There is no possible way that could have happened without the Lord’s intervention,” he reflects, recalling the miracles that led to the opening of his practice just one week after a day of prayer and fasting.

Over the years, the practice has grown, adapting to the changing needs of the community while staying true to its mission of providing high-quality, personalized care. Networking played a significant role in this growth, with local organizations like the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce and Salem Business Builders helping to spread the word and bring in new patients.

The Benefits and Safety of Chiropractic Care

One of the core principles of Dr. Isaksen’s practice is the emphasis on the benefits and safety of chiropractic care. Patients often experience immediate relief from pain and discomfort, and the non-invasive nature of the treatments means there’s no need for lengthy recovery times or dependence on medications. “Typically, before they even leave the office, they’re going to feel better,” Dr. Isaksen notes, highlighting the effectiveness of chiropractic adjustments.

Safety is another key concern for many first-time patients, particularly those who may be apprehensive about the process. Dr. Isaksen reassures them by comparing malpractice insurance rates, which are significantly lower for chiropractors than for many other medical professionals. “That makes me more than 90% safer than your family medical doctor,” he explains, underscoring the low-risk nature of chiropractic care.

To ensure each patient receives the best possible care, Dr. Isaksen utilizes a wide range of techniques, from gentle adjustments to more traditional methods, tailored to individual needs. “I’m going to do whatever is most effective within the patient’s comfort zone to get them the improvement and relief that they need,” he emphasizes.

Serving Those Who Serve: Special Care for Military Personnel

Dr. Isaksen’s commitment to service extends beyond his immediate patient base. With a deep appreciation for military personnel, he offers free care to active members and significant discounts to their families. “Anybody who is currently enrolled in the military gets free care all the time, anytime they want,” he says, explaining that it’s his way of giving back to those who have sacrificed so much.

Veterans are also honored, with free care provided during the weeks of Veterans Day and Memorial Day. This gesture is just one of the many ways NW Family Chiropractic supports the community, ensuring that those who serve are well taken care of.

Navigating Challenges and Planning for the Future

Running a chiropractic practice comes with its own set of challenges, particularly when it comes to navigating the complexities of health insurance. Dr. Isaksen acknowledges that dealing with insurance companies is one of the most difficult aspects of his job, but he remains committed to making care accessible to all. “We love cash-pay patients,” he admits, as it eliminates the middleman and allows for more direct and effective care.

Looking ahead, NW Family Chiropractic has ambitious plans for the future. With the recent addition of a new doctor, the practice is preparing for further expansion, including the potential for a new location and additional providers. “Our goals over the next few years are a new location with more space and additional providers who will be able to give that care to the patients,” Dr. Isaksen shares, excited about the possibilities that lie ahead.

For Dr. Isaksen, being part of the Salem community is one of the most rewarding aspects of his work. He appreciates the town’s unique blend of small-town camaraderie and big-city resources. “I love Salem. I love the beauty that is here in the valley and all the surrounding areas,” he says, reflecting on the strong sense of community that defines the region.

This connection is perhaps best illustrated through Dr. Isaksen’s experiences during local crises, such as the 1996 flood and the more recent Beachy Creek fire. In both instances, he witnessed firsthand the incredible spirit of cooperation and mutual support that defines Salem. “We’re here to take care of each other and to help and support and love and rescue each other when we need it,” he remarks, proud to be part of a community that rallies together in times of need.

As NW Family Chiropractic continues to grow and evolve, one thing remains constant: Dr. Andrew Isaksen’s unwavering dedication to his patients and the Salem community. With a focus on personalized care, safety, and community involvement, Dr. Isaksen is not just a chiropractor in Salem, OR—he’s a trusted partner in health and wellness. For those seeking relief from pain and a holistic approach to well-being, NW Family Chiropractic is the place to be.
