Rescue, Rehabilitation, & Rehoming
Nestled in the heart of the Willamette Valley, amidst the scenic beauty of Oregon, lies a safe-haven for feline companions and their devoted human friends. Meet Chelsey Marks, the hardworking and compassionate Executive Director of Friends of Felines, an organization dedicated to providing essential services to cats and their human companions throughout the region.
A Heartfelt Beginning
For Chelsey and her team at Friends of Felines, the journey began in 2004 when a group of local, animal-loving volunteers witnessed the distressing plight of countless homeless and unwanted cats in Salem. Faced with limited resources for rescuing, spaying, neutering, and finding loving homes for these cats, they knew they had to act. Determined to tackle the issue head-on, they embarked on a mission to reduce the overpopulation of cats in Salem, Keizer, and beyond.
From modest beginnings with just a handful of foster homes and no physical facility, Friends of Felines grew steadily, fueled by the unwavering dedication of its volunteers. Their journey led them to their first brick-and-mortar location in Salem, and in February 2021, they found a new home in Keizer, complete with a spacious adoption center, a fully-equipped surgery suite, and a team of dedicated staff and volunteers.
Expanding Horizons
As they look ahead, Friends of Felines is committed to expanding their programs and services, aiming to enhance access to veterinary care for both cats and their human companions. Exciting plans are underway to renovate their adoption center and expand their surgery and feline wellness clinics, ensuring they can continue making a difference in the lives of cats and their caregivers.
Standing Out with Compassion
What sets Friends of Felines apart from the rest is their unwavering commitment to their mission: saving lives. They offer a helping hand when others can’t or won’t, providing refuge for stray cats and support for owners facing challenging circumstances. Their dedication to making a difference resonates deeply with their community, earning them glowing reviews and heartfelt testimonials from grateful customers.
Community Engagement and Support
At Friends of Felines, giving back to the community is a core value. They host free vaccine clinics for cats and dogs, offer low-cost or free spay and neuter surgeries, and provide a space for individuals to volunteer and engage in community service. Through their actions, they demonstrate their commitment to making a positive impact on both feline companions and the people who care for them.
