WFMC Health recently celebrated a major milestone with a ribbon cutting event marking the reopening of its newly remodeled facility and the return to full staffing, which allows the organization to officially welcome new patients once again.
The event brought together staff, community members, patients, board members, and local leaders to recognize the organization’s continued commitment to accessible, equitable healthcare in the Salem area. The celebration also highlighted WFMC Health’s 30-year legacy of serving the community as a non-profit 501(c)(3) medical clinic.
CEO and Medical Director Dr. Galvez shared the organization’s mission and the personal experiences that helped shape it. Growing up in the Hood River Valley, she witnessed firsthand the gaps in healthcare access for agricultural and Latino communities. That perspective continues to guide WFMC Health’s approach of making sure care is available to all, regardless of immigration status or ability to pay.
Two of the organization’s three founding physicians—Dr. Ortega and Dr. Balmer—were also in attendance, which further underscores the long-standing foundation and vision behind the clinic’s work.
Oregon State Senator Deb Patterson addressed attendees, recognizing WFMC Health as a model for equitable healthcare delivery. She emphasized the importance of community-based care systems that prioritize access and inclusivity, something which she noted is not always common in today’s healthcare landscape.
The ribbon cutting ceremony was facilitated by Tom Hoffert of the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce, with chamber ambassadors participating in the celebration. Following the ceremony, guests were invited to tour the remodeled facility and attend a reception.
With its updated space, fully staffed team, and renewed capacity to accept new patients, WFMC Health continues to strengthen its role as a trusted healthcare provider in the Salem community—driven by a mission rooted in compassion, access, and community connection.
