The heart of West Salem beat a little stronger today as the West Salem Branch of the Salem Public Library officially launched its expanded operating hours, a direct and positive outcome of the community’s support.
The new schedule and service increase were made possible after voters approved the May 2025 Salem Livability Levy [1].
The library celebrated this milestone this morning with a special event. The public was invited to the Expanded West Salem Branch Library Hours Celebration from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the West Salem Meeting Room, marking the first time in years that the branch will be open every Monday [2].

New West Salem Schedule
Thanks to the levy, the West Salem Branch has significantly boosted its availability, more than doubling its open hours from 10 to a welcoming 21 hours per week.
Monday10:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Wednesday12:00 PM – 7:00 PM
Friday10:00 AM – 5:00 PM
The Main Library also saw its hours extended, restoring Sunday service and adding evening hours during the week, further enhancing city-wide access to essential library services [source 1]. This expansion is more than just about longer hours; it’s about strengthening community ties, fostering literacy, and providing vital resources to Salem residents.
