A Journey with WaFd Bank

Brooke Herbert’s journey with WaFd Bank began four years ago in the small town of Monmouth, where she started as a personal banker. Her dedication and passion for banking soon saw her entering the branch manager trainee program, which provided the perfect stepping stone for her career. After gaining valuable experience in Woodburn, Brooke found her home in North Salem two years ago, where she has since been leading the branch with enthusiasm and a deep commitment to her community.

A Legacy of Trust and Stability

WaFd Bank boasts a rich history and a strong foundation, celebrated its 107th anniversary in April 2024. Originally known as Washington Federal, the bank has weathered economic downturns such as the Great Depression and the Great Recession, emerging as a stable and reliable institution. “When people get nervous about the economy, I remind them of our long history and prudent choices,” Brooke shares, underscoring the bank’s enduring strength and reliability.

A Personal Touch at WaFd Bank

One of the unique aspects of WaFd Bank is the personal touch it offers. The branch’s customer service representatives ensure that clients feel known and valued. The bank also runs a “Business of the Month” program, giving local businesses the opportunity to set up a promotional table in the branch for free. “We appreciate every account, whether it has $5 or $5,000,” Brooke emphasizes, highlighting the bank’s commitment to each client.

The Perfect Balance

As a mid-sized regional bank, WaFd Bank strikes the perfect balance between personalized service and robust financial products. Operating in nine states, including their recent expansion into California, the bank offers the technological advancements and comprehensive services of a larger institution while maintaining the close-knit community feel of a smaller bank. “We’re a full-service bank with a small-town feel,” Brooke explains, noting that this unique positioning allows WaFd to meet diverse client needs effectively.

Building Strong Community Ties

WaFd Bank has woven itself into the fabric of our city. “We’ve found a really nice home in Keizer,” says Brooke. The bank’s involvement with the Keizer Chamber of Commerce and other local organizations exemplifies its dedication to fostering strong community ties. Brooke herself is an active participant in the Keizer Network of Women (KNOW), where she serves as the co-chair, further emphasizing her commitment to local networking and community support.

Community Engagement and Financial Literacy

WaFd Bank’s community involvement goes beyond just business. The bank actively participates in various local events and supports numerous nonprofits. One standout initiative is their collaboration with Financial Beginnings Oregon, a nonprofit organization that provides financial education to the public. WaFd Bank employees volunteer their time to teach financial literacy classes at local high schools, colleges, and community organizations. “We’ve taught at Chemeketa, Willamette University, and Willamette Career Academies, among others,” Brooke notes, highlighting the bank’s dedication to empowering individuals with the knowledge to manage their finances effectively.

Local Favorites and Community Spirit

Living and working in Keizer has given Brooke a deep appreciation for the local culture and community spirit. She enjoys the simplicity and charm of local activities, from attending and sponsoring Salem Capitals basketballl games in the summer to dining at beloved local eateries like Keizer’s Chicken Shack and Pho Keizer. “What I love is supporting local businesses and knowing that most places in Keizer are owned by local residents,” Brooke says with pride.

Outside of her professional life, Brooke enjoys spending time with her husband and their two-year-old corgi. Having recently purchased their first home in northeast Salem, they are relishing the joys of homeownership and getting to know the community around them.

WaFd Bank in Keizer, under the leadership of Brooke Herbert, exemplifies the spirit of community banking. With a rich history, a strong commitment to financial literacy, and a genuine dedication to local involvement, WaFd Bank continues to be a pillar of strength and support in Keizer and beyond.
