Make Music Salem 2024
Every year on June 21, the world unites through song on Make Music Day. This international celebration usually takes place on the Summer Solstice (however, this year the solstice is on the 20th) and is an amazing way to connect to your city and community through the magic of music. You can find live music performances all over Salem on Friday, from downtown to Riverfront, North to South Salem, at parks, in alleys, in front of businesses, and more. You won’t want to miss out on this summer kick-off! ☀️

Cancer Awareness Weekend with Salem-Keizer Volcanoes
Join the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes for their annual Cancer Awareness Weekend. Free tickets are available for all cancer survivors and their families to attend any game on Friday (6 PM), Saturday (1 PM or 6 PM), or Sunday (5 PM). Email [email protected] for ticket inquiries. This event is made possible by Dr. Bud Pierce and the Oregon Oncology Specialists.

STRIDE 5K & 10K Run/Walk
Come down to Riverfront Park this weekend and participate in June’s STRIDE 5K or 10K events! All ages and abilities are welcome to join. Bring your kids along in a stroller, or have your dog join you (on a leash). You can register beforehand or sign up day-of.

“Curious About Composting?” Workshop
The Marion County Master Gardeners Association is putting on a free demonstration on composting! They’ll be covering bin composting, vermicomposting with worms, as well as the bokashi method. Make sure you come ready with questions!
Additionally, participants will have the chance to win a book about composting and food waste reduction.

Sunny Pache Live at Checkpoint 221
Catch Sunny Pache’s live performance at Checkpoint 221 in West Salem. Originally from New England and then spending a few years in the Appalachian foothills, Sunny is a local singer-songwriter with an alternative folk sound. His music will remind you of a thoughtfully-told story around the warm glow of a fire.

Poet-Songwriters in Performance
The Mid-Valley Poetry Society is holding a Poetry in Performance event at the Willamette Heritage Center, featuring four Oregon poet-songwriters with recent books or albums. Featured poet-songwriters Colette Tennant, Sue Fagalde Lick, Kristen Grainger, and John Van Dreal—along with performing musicians Dan Wetzel and Kevin Rentz—will join moderator Mike Schuler in conversation about how they practice their two art forms. Enjoy poetry readings and song performances at this free event. Donations are welcomed, and books and CDs will be available for purchase.
