What should the City of Albany prioritize over the next few years? From public safety and housing to economic growth and neighborhood vitality, the City of Albany is officially inviting residents to help shape the next chapter of the community’s future.

The City is currently in the process of updating its 2022-2026 Strategic Plan, a foundational document that ensures the city’s mission and vision are backed by deliberate action and measurable goals.

The Four Pillars of Albany

The Strategic Plan is organized into four primary themes that guide every department’s work and every dollar spent in the city budget:

  1. Great Neighborhoods: Focusing on livability, housing, and community connections.
  2. A Safe City: Prioritizing emergency services, disaster preparedness, and public safety.
  3. A Healthy Economy: Supporting local businesses, job creation, and economic resilience.
  4. An Effective Government: Ensuring transparency, fiscal responsibility, and high-quality service delivery.

Your Voice Matters: The Fall 2025 Community Survey

To ensure the updated plan reflects the actual needs of the people who live and work here, the City is conducting its Fall 2025 Community Survey. This survey is a critical tool that allows the City Council to hear directly from residents about what is working well and where improvements are needed most.

Following a specialized Strategic Planning Workshop held by the City Council on October 10th, city leaders are now looking to combine internal data with community feedback to finalize the updated objectives.

Why It Matters

“If our Mission and Vision Statements are to have any meaning, they must be accompanied by deliberate planning efforts to move the organization and the community toward a desired future,” the City stated on its official planning portal.

By participating in the survey and staying informed on the plan’s progress, residents have a direct seat at the table in deciding how resources are allocated for projects like road repairs, park improvements, and public safety initiatives.
