The 17th Annual Young Artists’ Showcase is officially underway at the Bush Barn Art Center. This annual showcase, hosted by the Salem Art Association (SAA), opened Saturday with a ceremony that recognized the talent of K-12 students from Marion, Polk, and Yamhill counties. The showcase is now open for public viewing through April 26. Admission is free.
During Saturday’s event, individual artist awards were presented across various grade levels, validating the hard work of young creators who now see their pieces hanging in a professional gallery. This experience can be a landmark moment for aspiring artists!

Supporting Art at an Early Age
The A.N. Bush Gallery currently houses a collection of works that offer a panoramic view of the student experience in 2026. The collection ranges from whimsical elementary projects to high school pieces that tackle more complex themes of identity and self-expression.
Celebrating the Educators: “After Hours”
In a thoughtful parallel to the youth exhibition, the SAA also launched the third annual “After Hours” Art Teachers’ Showcase in the Camas Gallery. This exhibit highlights the personal creative practices of the regional educators who mentor these young artists daily. The gallery, in addition to the Young Artists’ Showcase, emphasizes that art is a lifelong pursuit.
Art as Community Infrastructure
The Young Artists’ Showcase is sustained by community partners, with long-standing support from the Larry and Jeanette Epping Family Foundation, Maps Community Foundation, and Art Department, LLC. This local backing is a continued commitment to the growth of art as vital community infrastructure in Salem.
The Frames of the Future
For the next two months, the walls of the Bush Barn Art Center will serve as a mirror to the community, reflecting the humor, depth, and resilience of our youngest neighbors. When we hang a child’s painting in a gallery, we are building a bridge between the city and its future. These young creators are both the artists of tomorrow and the visionaries of today, and their art invites every visitor to see the world through their eyes.
