Local roots, professional training, and a passion for safer streets

When it comes to driving instruction, Travis Gordon isn’t your typical teacher. Born and raised in Keizer, Oregon, and a proud graduate of McNary High School, Travis is bringing a fresh, full-time approach to driver education through his newly launched business, Gordon Driving School.
“I’ve lived in Keizer my whole life,” says Travis. “Starting a driving school here just made sense—it’s my home, and I want to make it a safer place.”
A Professional Instructor With a Personal Touch
Travis began his journey in driver education back in 2014. What started as a practical job quickly turned into a passion. Over the years, he has trained hundreds of new drivers, mentored fellow instructors at Western Oregon University, and even served on a national board for driver education. His goal? To make our roads safer—one driver at a time.
Unlike many part-time instructors who teach driving on the side, Travis is all in. “This is my full-time job, and I bring a professional level of care and customization to each lesson,” he explains. “I want to meet students where they are—emotionally, physically, and skill-wise—and help them feel confident behind the wheel.”
Services for Every Type of Driver
Gordon Driving School focuses primarily on students ages 15 to 19, but its services extend far beyond teenage learners. The school offers:
- Beginner Lessons for new drivers
- Refresher Courses for adults
- Fleet Training for companies with delivery or transport staff
- Defensive Driving Courses that can help lower commercial insurance rates
- New Hire Driving Evaluations for companies hiring employees who will be driving on the job
Travis is especially excited about offering defensive driving and fleet training to local businesses. “If we can help reduce crashes and save companies money through better driving, that’s a win for everyone,” he says.
Deep Community Roots
As a Keizer Chamber of Commerce board member and active community leader, Travis knows the value of strong local connections. He’s volunteered with events like the Keizer Turkey Trot (which saw over 250 runners in 2024) and plans to offer free clinics for mature drivers and potentially collaborate with local schools and nonprofits like Salem Angels.
Not Your Average Driving Instructor
One thing that sets Travis apart is his energy, relatability, and modern approach. “Most driving instructors are retirees or part-timers,” he says. “I’m younger, calm, and able to connect with students on their level—without yelling or stressing them out.”
He laughs, “Parents are usually terrified to teach their kids, but I’ve got the brake pedal and the patience.”
How to Support Gordon Driving School
The best way the community can support this locally owned business? Referrals. Whether it’s a teen learning to drive, an adult needing a refresher, or a business looking for employee training, Travis is ready to help.
