The sights, sounds, and flavors of summer filled the Oregon State Fairgrounds from July 9–12 as the 2026 Marion County Fair brought the community together for four days of local fun. This year’s “Made in Marion” theme celebrated the people, traditions, and agricultural roots that make Marion County special.

From youth livestock exhibits and creative competitions to carnival rides, live entertainment, and plenty of fair food, the annual event offered something for visitors of all ages. Here’s a look back at some of the highlights from this beloved Salem-area summer tradition.

Celebrating Local 4-H and FFA Youth

Local youth were at the heart of the Marion County Fair. Members of area 4-H and FFA chapters filled the barns and pavilions with livestock projects, poultry exhibits, and horse showmanship events that reflected months of dedication and hard work.

These programs give young people the opportunity to build confidence, develop leadership skills, and learn the value of responsibility. Fairgoers had the chance to support these students while seeing firsthand how much time and care goes into each project.

The fair also highlighted talent beyond the livestock barns. Youth and adult exhibitors entered photography, baked goods, textile arts, crafts, and other creative projects, giving local makers of all ages a place to share their skills with the community.

Marionberry Pie, Cheesecake, and Local Flavor

It wouldn’t be a Marion County celebration without a little marionberry flavor.

The fair’s baking competitions included contests for cheesecake and marionberry pie, bringing together local bakers and one of the Willamette Valley’s most recognizable crops. These friendly competitions added a delicious local touch to the weekend and gave fairgoers another reason to celebrate the region’s agricultural heritage.

Throughout the fairgrounds, visitors could also enjoy classic favorites like elephant ears, corn dogs, and other carnival treats. There was no shortage of fair food to enjoy, whether guests came for a full day of activities or stopped by for an evening.

Hands-On Family Fun

Families found plenty of ways to explore, learn, and play throughout the weekend.

The interactive “STEAM at the Fair” scavenger hunt encouraged younger visitors to connect science, technology, engineering, arts, and math concepts with traditional fair exhibits. It was a fun way to turn a day at the fair into a hands-on learning experience.

The carnival midway also kept the excitement going with rides, games, and bright lights. Combined with live entertainment and activity-filled exhibit halls, the fair offered plenty to see and do from the moment the gates opened.

Making the Fair More Accessible

Community accessibility was another important part of the 2026 Marion County Fair.

Opening day featured discounted admission through “$3 Thursday,” along with free entry for seniors, veterans, active-duty military members, first responders, and their families. The fair wrapped up with Family Day on Sunday, when children ages 12 and younger received free admission.

These special admission opportunities helped make it easier for more local families to enjoy the fair together. By combining affordable access with a celebration of agriculture, creativity, volunteerism, and youth achievement, the Marion County Fair once again showed why it remains such a meaningful part of summer in Salem and Marion County.

A Salem Summer Tradition

The Marion County Fair is more than rides, ribbons, and fair food. It is a place where neighbors gather, local youth are encouraged, and the hard work of farmers, makers, volunteers, and community organizations is celebrated.

The 2026 fair may be over, but the “Made in Marion” spirit continues throughout the year. Thank you to everyone who exhibited, volunteered, performed, competed, or came out to support this special local tradition.

What was your favorite part of the Marion County Fair this year?
