Do you have a knack for teaching kids how to kick a soccer ball, whip up a healthy snack, or master a paintbrush? Albany Parks & Recreation is officially looking for you.
In an effort to expand its after-school and weekend offerings, the city has launched a targeted recruitment drive for instructors to lead fun, engaging youth classes. The department is putting out a call for local talent in sports, movement, art, cooking, specialized weekend programs and more!
A “Hassle-Free” Way to Teach
For many experts, the biggest hurdle to starting a class is the logistics. The city’s new recruitment message is simple: “If you’ve got the idea, we’ve got the support.”
To encourage more residents to step into mentor roles, Albany Parks & Rec is handling all the heavy lifting. Local instructors don’t have to worry about:
- Registration: The city manages all sign-ups through their online portal.
- Payment: Collection and processing are handled by the department.
- Promotion: Classes are featured in the official Activity Guide and across city social media.
- Space: The city provides the facility, whether it’s a gym, kitchen, or studio space.
Building a Better After-School Scene
With the school year in full swing and summer on the horizon, the city is prioritizing programs that give Albany’s youth productive, creative, and active outlets. Whether it’s a one-day weekend workshop or a six-week after-school series, the goal is to create a diverse “menu” of activities that reflect the unique skills found right here in the community.
