Access to sports can make a huge difference in a child’s life. In Salem, that access just grew in a meaningful way.

A New Field for East Salem

Final Pass Field, a new soccer field at the East Salem Community Center, officially opened on March 15 and is expected to help expand free youth soccer opportunities for hundreds of local kids this spring.

Capital Fútbol Club manages the new field, which is located at the East Salem Community Center at 1850 45th Ave. NE. The club says the space was created to support its Final Pass programs, which are designed to remove barriers and make sure cost, circumstance, or background are not the reason a young person is left out of the game.

The project represents a major investment in East Salem youth. According to Salem Reporter, the field was part of an $800,000 project, funded through state dollars secured by Rep. Kevin Mannix along with support from private foundations.

Construction began last year, and the completed field is expected to serve about 500 kids this spring.

Breaking Down Barriers to Play

What makes this story especially meaningful is the focus on accessibility. Capital Fútbol Club told Salem Reporter that barriers to youth sports in Salem are often both financial and geographic, especially for families who may struggle with transportation.

In response, the club’s free youth soccer programming also helps coordinate rides, making it easier for more kids in East Salem to participate.

Built for Community Growth Beyond Soccer

Final Pass Field is also part of a bigger mission. On its website, Capital Fútbol Club describes the field as “a true community field” and says it will primarily support programs that expand access and belonging. The club also notes that 7,000 children participate in its programs each year, which reflects the impactful role it already plays in youth development across the Salem area.

For East Salem families, this new field is much bigger than soccer. Final Pass Field is also a neighborhood resource and a place for movement, teamwork, confidence, and connection. And for many local kids, it may also be the beginning of new opportunities that reach beyond the sidelines.

As Salem continues to invest in spaces that bring people together, Final Pass Field stands out as a strong example of what community-centered vision can look like. For the children who will run across this field in the months (and years) ahead, this is a place where access matters, where support shows up, and where opportunity is a little closer to home.
