Chuck Ries’s journey from Traeger employee to successful business owner of Chuck’s BBQ Store, was “kind of a fluke” according to Chuck. Though he never planned on being a business owner, it has worked out pretty well. Over a decade ago, he stumbled upon an empty building in Keizer. Having worked for Traeger for four years, this sparked an idea to create a local spot for barbecue enthusiasts. Despite initial doubts and the fact that it was two months prior to their wedding, Chuck and his fiance’, Susie (a Registered Nurse), dove headfirst into entrepreneurship. Showing some serious tenacity, they opened the doors just in time for the holiday rush. Fast forward ten years, and Chuck’s BBQ Store is synonymous with excellence in the world of outdoor cooking.
Traeger Enthusiast Turned Business Owner
It wasn’t an easy road. To begin with, Chuck worked days for Traeger and then evenings and weekends at the store. When Traeger moved from Wilsonville to Utah, he took that opportunity to see if “this little store can pay its way”. His customers come from the Oregon Coast to Detroit and from Vancouver to Eugene – primarily from word of mouth referrals.
Chuck’s passion for Traeger grills extends beyond mere salesmanship; it’s a lifestyle he’s cultivated over 17 years. His dedication to providing customers with top-of-the-line products and unparalleled service sets this BBQ store apart. HIs rescue bernie-doodle, Marley, is the store dog – especially loving the attention he gets from the kids that sit and play with him. Normally he’s just lazing around waiting for someone to walk in, but when Chuck’s wife Susie comes in, he’s jumping and bouncing to see his Mama!
