Albany’s one-of-a-kind fundraising tradition is back as the Albany Community Carnival & Great Platypus Drop takes over the Mid-Willamette Family YMCA this Saturday, May 9, 2026. Presented by Republic Services, this free-admission event combines classic carnival fun with a high-stakes raffle that supports two of Albany’s most impactful non-profits.
Community Fun for All Ages
From 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., the YMCA grounds will feature a variety of family-friendly attractions:
- Active Play: A dedicated “Bounce Zone” including an obstacle course.
- Entertainment: Carnival games with prizes, a photo booth, and a Toddler Fun Zone for the youngest visitors.
- Local Flavors: A vendor fair featuring local businesses and a selection of food vendors.
The “Beavers vs. Ducks” Rivalry
The highlight of the afternoon is the Great Platypus Drop. In a fun nod to Oregon’s famous collegiate rivalry, participants can choose to have their platypus entries represent either the Beavers or the Ducks.
Participants who purchase a platypus entry are eligible for a variety of prizes, including a grand prize trip to Disneyland for four. Those who enter will receive their official raffle numbers via email and can watch the drop live to see if their platypus lands on a winning target.
Investing in Albany
While the carnival is free to attend, the proceeds from the Platypus Drop raffle directly benefit the Mid-Willamette Family YMCA and Albany Area Habitat for Humanity.
Funding from the event helps the YMCA provide youth sports and programs to all children regardless of financial barriers, while supporting Habitat for Humanity’s mission to build safe, affordable housing for local families.
