As the school year winds down, Salem-Keizer families are already looking ahead to summer. From academic support and cultural enrichment to outdoor camps, career exploration, and community service, the 2026 Summer Opportunity Guide from Salem-Keizer Public Schools is designed to help local students stay active, engaged, and connected during the break.

The guide brings together school-sponsored programs and community-based opportunities throughout Salem, Keizer, and the greater Mid-Willamette Valley.

School-Based Support and Summer Enrichment

Salem-Keizer Public Schools’ internal summer programs are invitation-only and focus on academic support, cultural connection, and helping students transition confidently into the 2026–27 school year.

JumpStart Kindergarten

JumpStart Kindergarten is a free summer program that gives incoming kindergarten students a chance to experience the classroom before their first official day of school. For many children and families, this early introduction can help ease first-day nerves and build excitement for the year ahead.

Bold, Black and Brilliant

Bold, Black and Brilliant offers an immersive cultural enrichment experience for students entering 3rd through 8th grade. The program includes interactive lessons, field trips, lunch, and transportation, creating a supportive environment where students can learn, connect, and celebrate culture.

Native Education S’aamaks Program

The Native Education S’aamaks Program is a K–12 summer school opportunity that combines academic support with cultural engagement. Eligible students receive breakfast, lunch, and transportation, helping make the program more accessible for families.

Unified Summer Programs

Unified Summer Programs bring students with and without disabilities together through sports, leadership, and team-building activities. Offered at the elementary, middle, and high school levels, these nationally recognized programs encourage friendship, inclusion, and confidence.

Community Programs Beyond the Classroom

The Summer Opportunity Guide also highlights a variety of local programs led by community partners. These opportunities give students the chance to explore new interests, build practical skills, spend time outdoors, and connect with others across the Salem-Keizer area.

Career and Technical Education Through Chemeketa Community College

Students ages 14–16 who live in Marion, Polk, or Yamhill County can explore Career and Technical Education (CTE) opportunities through Chemeketa Community College. This free classroom-based experience gives students a closer look at a chosen CTE field and can help spark interest in future education or career paths.

Boys & Girls Club of Salem

The Boys & Girls Club of Salem is offering weekly themed camps from June 15 through August 28 for students in grades K–12. With enrichment activities and scholarships available, the program helps make summer camp more accessible for local families.

CAREcorps Leadership and Service Program

High school students interested in leadership, career exploration, and community service can take part in CAREcorps. This free three-week program gives students a chance to serve their community while gaining valuable skills and real-world perspective.

Kroc Center and City of Salem Summer Parks Program

For families looking for day camp options, both the Salem Kroc Center and the City of Salem’s Summer Parks Program offer activities for children ages 4–15. These programs emphasize movement, creativity, crafts, outdoor games, and plenty of summer fun.
