Meet Nitish Jagpal, MD
Dr. Nitish Jagpal is a board-certified pediatrician at WFMC Health who cares for children and adolescents from newborn through age 18.
Known for his calm presence and thoughtful listening, Dr. Jagpal is a trusted partner for families seeking compassionate, relationship-centered pediatric care in the Salem community.
His Path Into Healthcare
From an early age, Dr. Jagpal knew he wanted a career where he could make a meaningful difference.
“I have always wanted a career where I could make a direct impact on people’s lives,” he shared.
Growing up with a father who practiced medicine helped shape that calling.
“My dad is a doctor as well. Growing up watching him taking good care of his patients really inspired me.”
During medical school, pediatrics stood out. Dr. Jagpal was drawn to both the connection with children and the long-term impact of early care.
“I enjoy working and interacting with kids,” he said, adding that he values the preventive focus of pediatrics because “prevention is better than cure.”
Dr. Jagpal completed medical school in India and his pediatric residency at Nassau University Medical Center in New York. After practicing in Washington state, he moved to Oregon to be closer to family and now calls the Willamette Valley home.

His Role at WFMC Health
Dr. Jagpal works in WFMC Health’s pediatric outpatient clinic, where he sees patients from birth through 18 years of age. His care includes newborn care, well child visits, sick visits and mental health care.
He also supports families with a wide range of needs, including “asthma management, skin problems, sports physicals, ADHD management, and different kinds of psychiatric spectrums too.”
His approach is grounded in accessibility and continuity, supporting children and families through every stage of growth and development.
How He Cares for Patients
For Dr. Jagpal, strong pediatric care begins with trust.
“I think families look for a doctor who is kind, who listens to them, and who they can trust,” he said.
He’s intentional about creating space for families to share their concerns.
“I give them good enough time to tell me their story. I listen carefully.”
That careful listening helps guide thoughtful, evidence-based care—and just as importantly, helps families feel heard. “At the end of the visit, if my patients feel satisfied from me, I think that visit went great.”
When working directly with children, Dr. Jagpal focuses on comfort and safety.
“I believe to make them comfortable is the main thing in handling any kind of a pediatric patient,” he explained. “I get to their level and talk to them comfortably and making them feel safe so they can open up to me.”
What You Can Expect as a Patient
As a patient or parent, you can expect a visit that feels unrushed, respectful, and reassuring. Dr. Jagpal understands that in pediatrics, families are often seeking both answers and peace of mind.
“Most of the time parents look for reassurance and also they just want their kids to feel better,” he said.
By listening closely, answering questions, and addressing concerns with care, Dr. Jagpal works to ensure families leave visits feeling confident and supported.
“Every patient is welcome here.”
Why WFMC Health Matters to Him
Dr. Jagpal is deeply aligned with WFMC Health’s mission and nonprofit values.
“WFMC Health puts patients first and I value that,” he shared. He also appreciates the collaborative environment. “Since I’ve been working here, I’ve been blessed to have a good team around me and good supportive environment.”
He sees the organization’s commitment to equity as central to its purpose. “It’s a nonprofit clinic. So, there is no discrimination what kind of patients we see.”
“Every patient is welcome here,” he said. “The color of the skin doesn’t matter, their immigration status… [WFMC Health] puts their patients always the priority.”
A Little More About Dr. Jagpal
Outside of work, Dr. Jagpal is enjoying getting to know Oregon. “I’m new to Oregon… so I’m trying to travel Oregon now,” he said. He also enjoys staying active and spending time with family.
And one fun fact patients might not expect: “In high school, I used to be a 100 meter sprint winner.” It’s a background that helps him connect easily with young athletes coming in for sports physicals.
A Warm Welcome
Dr. Jagpal’s steady presence, thoughtful listening, and commitment to patient-first care reflect the heart of WFMC Health. Whether supporting a newborn’s first visit or guiding a teenager through adolescence, he approaches each family with patience, respect, and genuine care.
