“In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”
Matthew 5:16 (ESV)
Wondering why the small reference to Matthew 5:16 is at the bottom of our website?
Our Christian faith has always been an important part of who we are and how we approach business. Long before WhirLocal, one of our desires was simply to be a light in the marketplace and build channels of blessing to local businesses.
For us, that doesn't mean being perfect, having all the answers, or only doing business with people who believe what we believe.
It means trying to serve people well. Treating people with honesty and kindness. Building genuine relationships. Giving back. And using the opportunities we've been given to make a positive impact in the communities we serve.
That's one of the reasons WhirLocal exists.
We believe strong local businesses help build strong communities. We believe relationships matter. We believe trust is earned by how you treat people, how you serve them, and how you show up over time.
And we believe a lot of that good is happening quietly every day.
Matthew 5:16 reminds us that light isn't meant to stay hidden. It's meant to make a difference for the people around us.
Our hope is that WhirLocal can play a small part in that by helping high quality local businesses become more visible, helping neighbors discover people and places they know, like, and trust, and strengthening the relationships that make our communities better places to live, work, and raise our families.
You don't have to share our faith to be part of this community. Our faith simply helps explain why we care so much about the work we're doing and the impact we hope it can have.
That's why Matthew 5:16 is there.
And that's what we mean when we say we want to be a light in the marketplace.
