Quick to Make a Sale, but No Follow-Up or Service Once You Sign on the Dotted Line
After visiting the Edmonton RV show, we began our search for a 5th wheel travel trailer when we decided it was time to upgrade from our current unit. Sales staff and manager were very eager to ask and answer lots of our questions (manager extremely knowledgeable), and never put any direct pressure to put the sale through. However, some verbal agreements were made, IE the trailer you purchased will be exactly like the one you saw at the RV show. One of the items missing was a $300 TV from the entertainment system. It was not physically written in the agreement; we assumed it was included, as promised. When we questioned, we were told someone would look into it for us, wouldn't be an issue.
Sure enough, when we picked up the unit, it wasn't included. Inquired again, someone's not there to make a decision, we'll see what we can do, call back in a week. Eventually the pressure was put on, and we were denied, stating they moved lower on price and included an agreed up use piece of equipment, therefore received a deal, thus, any margin on the unit is gone, therefore, no TV, etc, etc.
We have yet to hear from anyone in regards to our satisfaction with our new trailer since, or any follow-up whatsoever.. Sign on the bottom line, take it away, you're problem now, thanks for your business, have a nice day. We have had a few very minor cosmetic issues and minor electrical issues, but nothing overly serious. Still, when you make such a large purchase, or any purchase for that matter, a little follow-up to show some sincerity goes along way. We understand its a busy season/time of year, but it takes 2 minutes to write an email or make a phone call.
While a $300 TV may seem like a pretty minor annoyance to complain about, it is. However, the point we are trying to make is the level of trust initially established to try and make a sale, and not living up to their end of the bargain, is both deceitful and unbecoming of any sales staff, management or otherwise. Stories like this haunt future customers and effect the integrity of the business, little by little.
As with any dealership, RV, automobile, realtors, or otherwise, everything must be in writing. Don't get dooped into believing anything otherwise, know matter the charm factor. If its not written down, it doesn't exist. Trust is in short supply these days, especially when someone is trying to take your hard earned dollars.
