Extended Warrany
I wanted to say a big thank you for taking the time to explain to me the benefits of having an extended warranty even though I was buying a brand new fifth wheel even though I have purchased multiple units from Western RV as my family has grown. I also added the site service to the warranty as it is parked on a lot about an hour away from Airdrie as this was going to be a new camping adventure for the family.
Last summer we tried to start the ac unit but to no avail , the ac unit was not working. I called Western Rv and spoke to RJ and Dean. We went thru the normal testing check thermostat, fan working etc however the fans were working but the compressor was not turning on. The explained to me the site costs for the visit however I had the site repair extended warranty which saved me a few hundred dollars already for the technicians time. The technician came out and explained that the board had failed and he replaced it. The board then failed a short time later and another service call was made. The service guys came out and it was the control board in the unit. RJ and Dean worked on getting ahold of the manufacturer of the ac unit and before they approved a replacement they wanted to complete multiple tests. This was done and still no ac for the summer. We were now 3 weeks into this. Finally and a huge thank you to Western RV they located another ac unit of the same size and installed it on site for me as the manufacturer had still not deemed the unit as failed. The new ac unit was installed and we had ac again. I was very impressed the Western RV took the initiative to rectify the issue even though they were getting stalled out by the manufacturer.
The moral of this story is this service call should I had not been covered could have cost me between 7 and 10k with the parts and site service which is more than double what the extended warranty was.
This was a brand new unit and just like a car may have issues in the first few years , I would urge anyone buying an RV of any type to really consider getting the extended warranty as you can see the replacement costs for some of the failures could or have the potential to be half the cost of the RV.
