1-Star Review of The Mook at Alderbrook
Please bring bug spray if you plan to play this course!!!! The course was very pretty and all the staff were very kind and helpful but I just can't give the course a good review in light of my experience with the bugs. There needs to be a disclaimer on the website when you visit that you will need to bring bug spray. Within seconds on stepping foot on the chipping green I was being swarmed and bitten. We went back to the pro shop where the kind employee let us use his bug spray which I am extremely appreciative of but I was still struggling with bites the whole time we played. I react extremely poorly to mosquito bites so I was immediately swelling up and itching. It is sort of negligent to not mention anywhere that there is a serious mosquito issue. I will keep bug spray in my bag from now on, but I have never played a course where it was needed. The course itself is not in great condition, the greens are inconsistent and the cart paths are horrible, you might as well be off-roading. On one of the holes, the back tee boxes are up a super steep hill and the path to get back down is incredibly steep, our cart was sliding with the brakes on. The routes to the holes are not well marked in some places either, and there are multiple holes where the tee box is directly behind the green of another hole which is not an ideal layout at all. The only pro is that we breezed through the course, getting done very quickly, but we were rushing to get away from the mosquitos. I would not recommend this course ESPECIALLY if you are sensitive to mosquito bites. If the pro shop wasn't kind enough to lend me their bug spray the course would have been unplayable for me.
