Lumen Beer Company opened in June 2022 and is located in the Little Bohemia neighborhood at 1433 s. 13 th St. We offer a small menu of bar food including French fries, tots, soft pretzelbites, hot dogs, and cheese curds. We also occasionally feature food trucks and pop-ups. The brewery focuses on creating a mix of hoppy, sour, and high-gravity beers that have one thing in common: the brewers love to drink them and they think you will, too.

Below is an interview with Dan Brouillette, owner of Lumen Beer Company.

I travelled the country with my old job and visited breweries all over the place. I would take photos and notes of breweries that I liked and beer styles I enjoyed homebrewing and eventually decided to open a place of my own bringing all of that to life. I lovingly refer to Lumen as a brewery made up of “return flight daydreams.”

We offer a rotating menu across 16 taps with an emphasis on hoppy beers. We also make our own in-house fruited seltzers using real fruit purees and release quarterly specialty beers that were aged in bourbon and whiskey barrels. The taproom also has a warm, yet modern vibe but feels intimate with just under 60 seats.

We offer seasonal events such as Haze Days (celebration of hops) in April, our annual anniversary party each June, and Dark Days each fall when we change the clocks back an hour. We also release new beers almost every week both on tap and in cans to take home.

I love our hazy IPAs. They were my favorite thing to make when I was home brewing and that has carried over to Lumen. They are a challenge to make due to a ton of variables in both the process and technique. I feel they are truly a blend of art and science and allow nearly unlimited options to the brewer.

I would like to increase our production capacity so we can distribute beer to more local bars, restaurants, and craft beer shops. We always have people ask us where they can find our beer and 99% of the time the answer is “just here in the taproom.” Increasing production would allow us to brew even more styles, host more events, and get more beer to the people who enjoy it!
