1. Why did you decide to open a brewery in Omaha?
Owner Aaron Bush, who was a previous beer brewer who had stepped away from the industry for a few years, was offered the opportunity to walk into an existing brewery. He decided he was not done with beer brewing and wanted to continue his creative process and that doing it as a family would be an added bonus for him.
2. What makes your brewery different from others in the Omaha area?
We are a family-owned brewery: Aaron and Kate Bush and their three children, Josh, Jack, and Julia. This is where the name of the brewery comes from: B for Bush and 5 for the number of people in our family. We are hyper-local focused and offer a lot of beers on tap—19—for the size of brewery we are. We also make customer service a high priority.
3. Do you have any special events (either occurring on a regular basis or one-time, seasonally, etc.)?
We have America’s Pub Quiz trivia on Tuesdays and Bingo once a month on a Thursday. We also offer a Mug Club where patrons pay a yearly fee to hold a mug on premises for their use when visiting the brewery.
4. What is your personal favorite beer that you brew and why?
Currently we all love Raw Dog, which is a pseudo bock lager that has dark chocolate notes and hints of coffee.
5. What are your future goals/plans for your brewery?
Our plan is to continue to be relevant, to keep our customers returning, and to stay open for as long as possible!
This is part of our ongoing Omaha Brewery Spotlight series. Please check out our other brewery spotlights and stay tuned for a wrap-up article that will list all breweries along with our publisher’s favorite beer at each!
