In March 2024, two sisters, Samantha Psanis and Danielle, fulfilled their lifelong dream by opening Mules N’ More Rescue & Rehab in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee. Driven by their passion for animal welfare, they embarked on a mission to provide a safe haven for mistreated, injured, and abandoned animals. Their motto, “We rescue the mistreated, save the injured, love the abandoned,” perfectly encapsulates their dedication.
The Inspiration Behind Mules N’ More
The origin of Mules N’ More is rooted in Samantha and Danielle’s childhood passion for rescuing animals. Their first horse was rescued from a racetrack because he couldn’t run anymore. From that point on, their love for animal rescue snowballed, eventually leading them to establish Mules N’ More. Their first official rescue was Benji, an old Amish mule saved from a Pennsylvania kill pen. Benji became the organization’s beloved mascot and the inspiration behind its name.
Samantha shares, “We have always had a love and passion for rescuing animals who need it, but we never had the opportunity to do it publicly as a non-profit.”
Specialization in Medical Needs
Mules N’ More stands out due to its focus on animals with advanced medical needs. With over 20 years of animal care experience, their team includes vet techs, veterinarians, and registered nurses. This expertise allows them to provide comprehensive care for animals of all ages and health conditions.
Samantha explains, “In addition to our 20+ years of animal care experience, we have staff and volunteers with diverse medical training and extensive experience, including vet techs, veterinarians, and registered nurses.”
Meet the Team
- Samantha Psanis (CEO and Co-Founder):
Samantha started her equine journey at age 10. By 13, she owned her first horse, an off-track thoroughbred named Blaze. After earning a BS in Equine Veterinary Technology, she worked as an equine vet tech and later as a small animal vet tech. She now holds a nursing degree (RN) and balances her full-time RN role with running the non-profit. Her personal animals include dogs (Sawyer, Ivy, Lola, Cooper) and a cat (Aphrodite). She also enjoys competing in barn hunts with her dog Sawyer. - Danielle (Operations Manager and Co-Founder):
Danielle’s love for animals started at age 6, and she owned her first horse by 9. She earned a degree in Environmental Science and has extensive experience in animal care and rehabilitation. She volunteered at Ever After Mustang Rescue and Center for Wildlife before working at a renowned emergency animal hospital. Danielle’s personal rescue animal is her dog, Ivy. She enjoys long hikes with Ivy and advocating for animal welfare.
Rescue and Rehabilitation Efforts
Mules N’ More provides comprehensive rehabilitation for its rescued animals. The organization’s medical team ensures quality care, regardless of the animal’s age or health condition. Their efforts not only focus on physical rehabilitation but also address emotional well-being.
“The willingness of the community to help us when we need it has been overwhelming,” says Samantha. “Receiving our first public donation was a proud moment for us.”
Renovation and Expansion Plans
With big renovations planned for their property, Mules N’ More aims to intake more animals soon and expand farm animal adoptions. Their goal is to create a nurturing environment where all animals receive the love and care they deserve.
Connecting with the Local Community
Samantha and Danielle enjoy the strong sense of community in Mt. Juliet. They love taking their dogs for walks and exploring local eateries like Jersey Oven, Oscar’s Tacos, and the Car-B-Q food truck.
“We love the sense of community in Mount Juliet,” says Samantha.
Invitation to Support Mules N’ More
Mules N’ More Rescue & Rehab is fully operated by Samantha and Danielle, who both work full-time jobs alongside managing the non-profit. They invite the community to join them in creating a compassionate world where all animals receive the care they deserve.
“Together, we can create a world where compassion triumphs over cruelty, and every animal receives the love and care they deserve.”
There are several ways to donate and all the donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by the law. FID:99-2036116
