MurryConsult partners with small to medium-sized businesses to deliver tailored HR solutions that grow with you. Our signature ‘HR in Box’ subscription provides hands-on HR support exactly when you need it—from compliance and handbooks to strategy and employee relations. Often small businesses think they are too small for HR but professional HR management drives business success by boosting employee satisfaction while ensuring compliance.

Below is an interview with Nichole Murry, founder and owner of MurryConsult.

How long have you been in business and what was your
motivation for starting the business?

At MurryConsult’s one-year mark, I am fulfilling my vision of bringing big-company HR expertise to small and medium-sized businesses at a fraction of the cost. Why? Because I understand that while you might not need a full-time (or perm part time) HR person, you need someone in your corner who can help protect and nurture your organization’s secret sauce—without sending you home with a headache!

How has the business grown over the years?

What a difference a year makes! MurryConsult started with just one client while I balanced a full-time job. Today, I’m proud to say I’ve taken the leap to become a full-time business owner, supporting multiple clients in ways that fit their unique needs—from one-time projects like compensation structures, handbooks to ongoing partnerships as their designated HR partner. Every business’s HR journey is different, and we’ve grown by adapting to meet each client exactly where they are.

What do you think sets you apart from other businesses in the
same industry?

What sets MurryConsult apart is our truly hands-on approach. For local subscription clients, I don’t just work for you—I work alongside you. I prefer to spend time in your office at least once a month, immersing myself in your culture while tackling HR projects and tasks. This isn’t just about having a workspace—it’s about experiencing your company’s unique environment firsthand, which helps me become a better partner and deliver more impactful solutions.

What do you like about living and working in Omaha?

As a born and raised Omahan, I’ve experienced firsthand what makes our community truly special. There’s something AMAZING about living in a city where the concept of “stranger” barely exists. This deep sense of connection probably explains why Omaha’s philanthropy is so strong—we’re all eager to give back to a community that has given us so much in countless ways.

What are your plans for the next five years of your business? 10?
25?

My five-year vision is to scale MurryConsult’s impact, continuing to serve both local and national clients with excellence. But looking further ahead—to ten and twenty-five years—I’m building more than just a business. I’m creating a legacy that not only inspires my children but also allows me to reach back and lift up the next generation of entrepreneurs and HR professionals as they pursue their own dreams and aspirations.

If you could choose one thing you enjoy most about your
business, what would it be?

The true joy in what I do comes from those moments when clients share their successes—whether it’s a policy we crafted together, a compensation structure we built, or a workflow we streamlined. Being even a small part of their journey towards success is what makes this work so meaningful. It’s not just about HR solutions; it’s about watching businesses thrive and knowing I played a role in their story.

How does your team give back to the community?

Giving back is a core value at MurryConsult. As President-Elect of the Human Resource Association of the Midlands (HRAM), I dedicate countless volunteer hours to strengthening our community, because volunteerism is what makes for a strong, connected society. This includes developing programs, creating network groups, and fostering partnerships with local professionals. These efforts cascade into organizations of all sizes, ultimately benefiting the entire community.

Does your business have a mission statement?

At MurryConsult, our mission is to support entrepreneurs by offering HR compliance and legislative guidance at an affordable rate. As a small, founder-led business, we take pride in providing personalized service that meets the unique needs of small/medium businesses, delivering the same care and attention as larger organizations. We’re here to help businesses thrive by taking the guesswork out of compliance, so they can focus on their passion and growth.

If you could give other business owners a piece of advice, what
would it be?

One of the most valuable pieces of advice I’ve received is that while people may buy a product or service, it’s the relationship they build with you that truly sets you apart from your competitors and leads to success, that is what the client is purchasing. It’s important to dedicate time to nurturing connections with others, as those relationships can make all the difference in your business.
