Following the success of “Mary Poppins,” Cabot Theatre invites the community to experience an inspiring one-act play, To See the Stars, on November 16 and 17, 2024, at Cabot High School’s Blackbox Theater. This thought-provoking production, performed by talented students, tells the true story of the “Uprising of the 20,000,” a pivotal moment in American labor history when courageous young women stood up for fair treatment in New York City’s garment factories.

Written by Cynthia Mercati, To See the Stars dramatizes the journey of young immigrant women working in harsh conditions who ultimately led one of the largest strikes of female workers in American history. Known as the “Uprising of the 20,000,” this historical event in 1909 saw garment workers, mostly teenage girls and young women, fight for better wages, safer working environments, and shorter hours. Their bravery not only improved their own lives but also inspired future generations in the labor movement.
Cabot Theatre’s director and students have put in countless hours rehearsing and preparing for this play, infusing it with emotion and authenticity. Their dedication shines in every scene, bringing historical figures and their courageous acts to life.
Attendees should enter through the auditorium/arena lobby, where ushers will be available to guide them to the Blackbox Theater. The Blackbox setting promises an intimate experience, allowing the audience to feel deeply connected to the unfolding story of resilience and hope.
