The holiday season, often associated with joy and togetherness, can be particularly challenging for children and teens in foster care who have experienced trauma. Recognizing this, The CALL in Lonoke & Prairie Counties has initiated the Family Christmas Baskets program to support local foster and adoptive families during this time.
The Family Christmas Baskets program aims to provide foster and adoptive families with thoughtfully curated gift baskets. These baskets are designed to encourage quality family time and address the emotional needs of children and teens in care. By offering activities and items that promote bonding, the program helps families create positive holiday memories.
Community involvement is crucial to the success of the Family Christmas Baskets program. There are two primary ways to contribute:
- Build a Basket: Individuals or groups can assemble baskets filled with items such as games, books, crafts, and other family-oriented activities. These baskets should be tailored to various age groups to ensure they meet the diverse needs of foster children.
- Sponsor a Basket: For those who may not have the time to assemble a basket, sponsoring provides a way to contribute financially. Donations are used to create baskets that are then distributed to families in need.
Participating in the Family Christmas Baskets program offers several benefits:
- Supporting Foster Families: Your contribution provides foster and adoptive families with resources to create meaningful holiday experiences, strengthening family bonds.
- Community Engagement: Involvement fosters a sense of community and shared responsibility for the well-being of local children in foster care.
- Raising Awareness: Participation helps highlight the challenges faced by foster families during the holidays, encouraging broader community support.
The CALL is a non-profit organization that mobilizes local churches to serve children and youth in foster care. By recruiting, training, and supporting foster and adoptive families, The CALL aims to ensure that no child in Arkansas waits for a family.
