Upon entering Closet Collections, visitors receive a warm welcome from Amber Moss, the store’s dedicated owner. Her personalized service and kindness make everyone feel immediately at home, fostering a loyal customer base eager for their next visit. The shop is renowned for its high-quality merchandise and engaging shopping environment.
Since taking ownership in 2020, Moss has steered Closet Collections with a community-focused vision. Previously, the location was home to another consignment store for about a decade. The store was then bought by the owner of Closet Collections in Searcy. Moss, who had worked at Closet Collections in Searcy for six years, was later given the chance to lead the Cabot store. Faced with the decision to buy the business, Moss was motivated by signs that it was worth continuing, saying, “There were a lot of things along the way that showed me it was worth sticking around for.”
Beyond selling clothes, the store plays an active role in community support. Moss and Jessica Carr, the store’s only employee, donate unsold items to organizations like Partners Against Human Trafficking and AMVETS. Furthermore, Moss uses her Facebook platform to facilitate donations, effectively making Closet Collections a vital community hub for community support.
“We’ve been given a really big platform that has brought so many people together,” she said. “I don’t feel like it’s any coincidence, the people that have been brought in our lives that need things because we have those things a lot of times. So as much as we’ve been given, we want to give back.”
Moss has been a fixture in the consignment shop industry for more than a decade, drawn initially during a challenging period of postpartum depression. Her involvement began as a supportive gesture to a friend overwhelmed by the demands of a new business. “That’s how we started out was I would go wear my baby and go help her and help her get her business going. I think it’s a staple to the community,” she said.
Sustainability is a critical pillar of Moss business philosophy. She prioritizes recycling and reusing, ensuring that no item goes to waste. This practice not only protects the environment but also recirculates financial resources within Cabot.
Supporting Closet Collections means more than just shopping; it’s about sustaining the local economy and environmental stewardship. Moss believes in keeping community funds local: “If you want to support anything, support putting that money back in your community’s pocket because it’s already there.”
Shopping at Closet Collections isn’t the only way to support Moss’s business. The store accepts old clothing and give it new purpose, whether it be supplying the store or donating to meaningful causes.
“Thrifting should be on the rise because everything is going up, and people need to be saving their money for their gas and groceries and everything else,” Moss said. “And that’s why we’re here. To help put that money back in your pockets by bringing your stuff in instead of sitting it on a curb… So, if you morally want to donate things, we do that for you.”
Moss’s mission with Closet Collections extends beyond commerce. It’s about providing support and relief to those in need. “I wish they knew how passionate we were towards it. It’s not just a money-making thing. I call it a ministry,” she said.
