When Ryan Ousey of Omaha founded ROC Business Technologies nine years ago, it was with a simple and clear mission: To help Omaha small business owners with all their IT needs, so that they can focus on what they do best—grow their business. For nine years Ryan has done just that, and ROC has become a highly successful managed service provider for the Omaha community. Not only has Ryan solved one complex IT challenge after another, but he’s alleviated a lot of business owners’ stress and headaches along the way—a huge added benefit for outsourcing IT.

Who ROC Business Technologies Serves

According to Ryan, ROC will serve small businesses who typically have anywhere from one employee to 60 employees behind computers. In the beginning, ROC predominantly served healthcare related businesses, such as: chiropractors, dentists and optometrists. In the last 18 months, they’ve made a big impact in serving trade businesses, such as: construction, HVAC, plumbers, and mechanical companies.

Typical Jobs for ROC

Some of the most frequently requested jobs that ROC will complete for their clients is handling employee changes. Whether it’s onboarding new staff by proactively completing device and security software updates, device cleanups, email setup with educational training resources, and file access restrictions to better protect the company. Or offboarding employees in a timely manner to make sure their client isn’t vulnerable. ROC makes sure that their clients’ business is protected at every stage of the employment process.

Ryan understands that office location changes can be extremely stressful to business owners who may not have the time or expertise to know what is needed for their business to seamlessly relocate with minimal downtime. That is why ROC now handles all relocation business needs that you may have. After Ryan does an initial evaluation of the new location with you, he will manage the necessary vendors and get you the quotes you need to proceed. This way, you still have the time to run your business while also getting the support you need from an expert. ROC will handle running any wall low voltage cables needed, IT equipment moves/ setup and will help you come up with creative solutions along the way.

Ryan said they currently have a small business client whose lease had ended, but their new office wouldn’t be ready for a few more months, essentially stopping that business from functioning. Ryan stepped in and created a solution for them to house their servers at ROC’s offices until the new office was ready. Going that extra mile for his clients is what sets ROC Business Technologies apart from other IT service providers.

There are also instances in which companies need to make significant upgrades and changes to stay competitive within their local market. This can create headaches for business owners who don’t have a background in IT. Whether it is investing in new software, IT equipment, or creating protocols to best fit their business needs, it can be stressful and confusing. “Bringing somebody into the fold that can speak the language” is part of Ryan’s job to make sure business owners understand the new technology that is available—and that it is the best long-term solution for your business goals.

The Importance of Outsourcing

For Ryan, solving challenging problems and coming up with customized solutions is a typical day at the office. Getting companies to understand the importance of outsourcing their IT needs, however, can be challenging and often involves asking them questions and walking them through various scenarios they likely haven’t considered.

“What happens if you leave your device at a TSA gate? What happens if you leave it in the airplane? What happens if it’s stolen? What happens if it’s on the hood of your car or the roof of your car and you drive off and it’s no longer accessible? What type of impact does that have on you financially? What type of impact does it have on functionality and business continuity? Those are the conversations we need to have and the scenarios we help our clients think about and problem-solve for.”

ROC is proactive, so that you don’t have to be.

Building the Business

As ROC Business Technologies has grown, Ryan has had to bring on additional employees. How does he handle hiring people from a personal standpoint? “Letting go control of something that has your name on it and that you’ve built is tough,” he says. People are used to sending me text messages personally and I enjoy that, but it’s not sustainable.”

When hiring new talent, Ryan must consider several factors but finds that a quality employee in the IT industry ultimately must have initiative to do well. “One of the biggest things that I like to look for is someone who can get things done and who can figure things out for themselves when they need to. Being a self-starter who can tackle tasks on their own is a very important skill in the IT business.”

Priorities

In addition to running a successful business, Ryan is also a husband, a father, and a basketball coach to 7-year-olds. When asked how he manages everything, Ryan mentioned sleep deprivation and added, “It’s just setting priorities, right? The gym for me used to be a daily type of thing. Now all of a sudden, priorities have to shift. I don’t necessarily go to the gym every day anymore.”

If you’re a small business owner in Omaha and would like to outsource your IT, give Ryan at ROC Business Technologies a call. He’ll take on your IT challenge — and free you from one less thing to worry about.
