Homeowners Flood Insurance Claim
Our experience with Sarah McDonough in making our homeowners claim was horrible. It started with her trying to talk me out of making a claim in the first place, threatening that our rates would go up and that insurance is made for catastrophic events. We decided to go ahead anyway since this seemed catastrophic enough to us, and thought this was exactly what homeowners insurance was for. This was our first time ever making a claim after owning a home for over 30 years. Basically she was rude every time I talked to her and made me feel horrible after I submitted our receipts and paperwork for our flood insurance claim (due to a pipe bursting) She accused us of spending more money than she had basically ever seen before (we had to stay at a hotel while our floors were being refinished) and that we had spent way too much money on food. We could have spent much more but we truly just ate like we usually would, and we’re not extravagant. She kept questioning me over and over and after I would explain wouldn’t accept my answer and would question me again. We also stayed at two different hotels, one that was right next to my husbands work during the week and a different one on the weekend, and she made us feel like that was terrible to do (we weren’t aware that this would be a problem) I got to the end of our final conversation feeling horrible and am considering changing insurance companies because of my interactions with her. She also asked me how many times we usually eat dinner out in a week, and when I told her 2-3 times, she then deducted that amount from my receipts because she said we would have been eating out that many times anyway, so that the insurance wouldn’t pay for those meals. Sounded strange to me but by this time I was so upset I just said to do whatever. She did deduct those meals…still don’t know if that is typical? You’d think homeowners insurance is for those awful times in life when you need them (a part of our house flooding) but after dealing with Sarah I guess not…you pay in for 30 years and then are made to feel guilty for using it. So very disappointed. (By the end of the conversation she did finally realize how bad she had made me feel, and apologized saying she had not been feeling well the last few days. I’m a mom and accepted her apology, but what a disaster!)

Well I decided to update my review so people know that they do not have to let this company take advantage of you, which is what they tried to do to me. My loss occurred last year on August 27, 2019. …~ Christen W.
