As an undergraduate student at the University of Kentucky, Annie’s interest in hemp was sparked by a research paper she was writing. Little did she know, that paper would be the catalyst for her journey into the hemp industry, a journey filled with unexpected turns, challenges, and ultimately, a deep passion for cannabinoid products.
Initially, Annie’s fascination with hemp revolved around its potential for policy reform, its environmental impact, and its versatile fiber. This passion led her to pursue a graduate degree, where her thesis focused on advocating for changes in US hemp policy. The journey took an international turn when she was awarded a Fulbright scholarship to study hemp fiber as a building material in Canada and assess its environmental implications. While in Canada, a pivotal moment occurred with the passing of the farm bill legalizing hemp, including in her home state of Kentucky. Meanwhile, life threw a curveball when she was bitten by a tick, eventually leading to a diagnosis of Lyme disease. This health challenge forced her to reassess her path and priorities and she decided to move back home to Lexington. During this time of uncertainty and health struggles, a friend introduced Annie to CBD capsules, hoping they might provide some relief. To her surprise, the capsules not only alleviated her symptoms but also increased her energy levels and reduced arthritic pain. This firsthand experience with cannabinoids transformed her skepticism into belief.
Empowered by this newfound knowledge and personal experience, Annie dove headfirst into the cannabinoid side of the industry. Through conversations with a cannabis specialist doctor and a Lyme Disease Pharmacist formulator, she delved deeper into the potential of different cannabinoids in addressing health challenges like Lyme disease. Annie’s father, Arther Rouse, Woody Harrelson’s videographer for this documentary on hemp, was directly involved in capturing this momentous event. This experience had a lasting impression on Annie, contributing to her passion for advocating responsible cannabis use and promoting the benefits of hemp-derived products.
