Dr. Arthur Langston, Integrity Spine and Joint Center in Troy

“I remember when the opportunity arose. A doctor in Missouri was selling his practice, and he said, ‘If you want it, you can buy it—basically for the equipment.’ So I was like, ‘All right, sure.’ I literally had two weeks to decide, and I didn’t know anything about running a business. It was just me, and I had no money. The bank had told me they were going to give me $75,000 in credit. When I actually applied, they gave me $25,000, which is a drop in the bucket. Really, $75,000 wasn’t enough. $25,000 was really nothing. So I was like… all I pretty much had was time. And so I found every facility, every group, every whatever, that would let me get my foot in the door,” Dr. Arthur Langston, owner of Integrity Spine and Joint Center in Troy, recalls.

Dr. Langston has carved out a space where passion meets purpose at Integrity Spine and Joint Center. His journey into chiropractic care is one where passion meets purpose and unyielding commitment to the well-being of his patients.

From Athlete to Respected Chiropractor in Troy

Dr. Langston’s story begins not in a clinic but on a wrestling mat. A small-town boy from Vandalia, Illinois, Arthur found his initial calling in the world of sports. Wrestling on a full athletic scholarship at Lindenwood University, he was drawn to the world of sports medicine. The interaction between athletes and athletic trainers fascinated him, and this interest would soon shape his career path.

“I loved the interaction between the athletes and the athletic trainers,” Arthur recalls. “It just clicked with me—the idea of treating injuries and helping people get back to doing what they love.”

Originally contemplating a career in dentistry, inspired by family members in the profession, Arthur soon realized that his passion lay elsewhere. It wasn’t the allure of surgery or dentistry that called to him but rather a desire to heal without invasive procedures. As chiropractic care began to gain prominence, he saw a path that combined his love for sports medicine with a non-invasive approach to treating injuries and pain.

A Passion for Pain Relief and Great Health

The decision to pursue chiropractic wasn’t sparked by a single life-changing adjustment. In fact, Arthur’s first chiropractic experience at the age of 20 was quite unremarkable. “My first adjustment was good, but it wasn’t like a lightbulb moment,” he admits. “It just felt like a natural extension of what I wanted to do—help people without needing to go under the knife.”

After years of working as an associate in various settings—from pain management clinics to working alongside podiatrists—Arthur honed his skills and developed a keen interest in treating conditions like heel pain and other sports-related injuries. Despite his growing expertise, the idea of starting his own practice in Troy was more of a “maybe someday” thought than a concrete plan. But fate, as it often does, had other plans.

The Adventure of Building Integrity Spine and Joint Center in Troy

The opportunity to take over a practice in Troy came quickly and unexpectedly. With only two weeks to decide, Arthur found himself at a crossroads with little knowledge about running a business and even less financial backing. “When I applied for a $75,000 line of credit, the bank only gave me $25,000,” Arthur recalls. “That wasn’t nearly enough, but I had to make it work. I had no money, but what I did have was time and a willingness to learn.”

To make ends meet, Arthur threw himself into the community, connecting with local football teams, health magazines, and the Chamber of Commerce. He spent countless hours at local events, slowly building his reputation. “I went to every facility, every group, every event that would let me get my foot in the door,” he says. “I didn’t have money for big marketing campaigns, so I put in the time instead.”

One of his most significant efforts was getting involved in local races. “I remember one of the first races I ever did,” Arthur recalls with a smile. “I didn’t have money for a tent or fancy equipment, so I went to Sam’s Club and bought 600 of the cheapest water bottles I could find. I loaded them into my car—every nook and cranny was filled with those bottles. I set up at the race, offered stretching and treatment, and just kept showing up.”

Arthur’s dedication paid off as he became a familiar face at these events. “I was at almost every race, every weekend—sometimes doing five races in one weekend. It wasn’t just about getting my name out there; it was about building relationships with the community.”

His first big break came when he started working with the Troy Titans, a local youth football program that welcomed his involvement. “The Titans have always been super supportive of me,” Arthur says gratefully. “I’d do anything for them. They’ve been with me since the beginning.”

A Compassionate Chiropractor in Illinois

Dr. Langston’s practice is more than just a business; it’s a reflection of his passion for helping others. His approach to care is holistic, treating not just the symptoms but the person as a whole. “I tell my patients all the time, I didn’t get into this profession to make money,” Arthur says earnestly. “If all I had to do was see patients all day and not worry about the business side, I’d be the happiest guy in the world.”

Whether it’s helping a 90-year-old grandmother regain her mobility or assisting a professional athlete in recovering from an injury, Arthur’s goal is the same: to provide the best possible care for each individual. “I treat the run-of-the-mill stuff like knee pain, hip pain, shoulder pain, back pain, neck pain—all those things. Obviously, we treat those. We have spinal decompression, we have laser therapy, we do acupuncture, dry needling, kinesio taping, cupping,” he explains. “But then there are conditions that people don’t always associate with chiropractic care, and when I talk to them about it, they’re like, ‘Wow, I didn’t think about that.’”

Arthur’s practice isn’t just about addressing common ailments; it’s about offering a comprehensive approach to health that includes specialized treatments and therapies that many people might not realize a chiropractor can provide. This breadth of care has allowed him to build a reputation for treating a wide range of conditions effectively.

The practice has grown steadily, even through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. When in-person visits were no longer possible, Arthur adapted by creating online content—videos on health, nutrition, and pain management—that kept him connected with his patients. His resilience during this time not only kept his practice afloat but also strengthened the bond with his community.

“And kind of a funny story, or a funny scenario, is that’s what happened during COVID that was so hard for me,” Arthur recalls. “I guess it could sound weird, but I like to know—like, I love to hear patients’ stories, like, what’s going on in their life? How are your kids? How’s your dad? How’s your husband? And they’d just be like, ‘So what’s going on?’ And I’d say, ‘Nothing. Can’t do nothing, you know.’ But there’s no dance recitals, there’s no holidays, there’s no birthdays, there’s no get-togethers, nothing. And of course, you didn’t want to talk about COVID and politics—that was even more depressing.”

This period of disconnection highlighted the importance of the personal connections Arthur had built with his patients over the years. “I had to figure it out,” he reflects on the pandemic. “There was no other option. I started doing videos three times a week on anything I could think of to help people at home. It was a way to stay connected and remind them that we’re still here for them.”
