Watch for any red bumps on the body that are shiny on the top of the skin. You may also notice a red bump that is rough and feels scaly or itchy.

Signs Based on Skin Cancer Types

It’s important to note that signs vary from person to person and depend on the type of skin cancer present. Here are a few signs based on skin cancer type.

  • Basal cell carcinoma: Pearly or waxy bump on the skin, a flat and rough patch on the skin, or a sore that bleeds and doesn’t fully heal.
  • Squamous cell carcinoma: Signs include a firm red nodule, a scaly or crusty lesion with irregular borders, or a painful or itchy skin lesion.
  • Melanoma: Signs include changes in the appearance of a mole (usually irregular edges, growing size, change in color, or abnormal shape)
