Kids went back to school this week, and this weekend promises to be another hot weather weekend, with temperatures approaching or topping 100 on Saturday.

Here’s a list of both indoor and outdoor activities to give you a reason to get out of the house.

Friday-Sunday Sept 9-11: Sublimity Harvest Festival

A perennial, family-friendly favorite, the award-winning Sublimity Harvest Festival started in 1973 as a competition between local farmers to see whose tractor could pull the farthest. Today, there have been many additions to the tractor pulls including truck pulls, ATV pulls, and MONSTER trucks!

Friday Sept 9, 4pm: Boot Scoot Brew & BBQ

Friends of Center 50+ are bringing back their Annual Event Boot Scoot Brew & BBQ. This outdoor, but under a tent, event includes: food, beer/wine garden, raffles and of course a few musical groups. They are thrilled to invite back one of our community’s favorite locally grown, Nashville Singer and Songwriter- Carrie Cunningham. Square dance demo at 4p.m., music starts at 5p.m. and Carrie hits the stage at 7p.m.

Tickets are $10 and people are encouraged to come with cash to purchase food and beverages and ready to support Center 50+ and the programs that serve Salem’s older adults. The seniors in our community need help with Alzheimer’s Respite Care, Scholarships for Health and Fitness, and opportunities to remain connected to their peers and their community.

This event is open to adults of all ages. Put on your boots, pull out your favorite western shirt or dress, invite your friends, family, and neighbors and join us for a Boot Scootin’ Good Time!

Saturday Sept 10, 9am: Salem Hardy Plant Society Fall Plant Sale

Come browse over a dozen nursery and garden art vendors, talk directly with the nursery owners and artists. Buy a lunch at the Chill Grill food cart and have a picnic in the beautiful display gardens of Sebright Nursery. Free parking and free entrance. Come support your local nurseries and artists.

Sunday Sept 11, 10am: Indoor/Outdoor Market at Halicuna Bay Mall

This indoor/outdoor market features 100+ local vendors with fineworks, art, arts and crafts, home décor, homemade goodies and much more. This is a great opportunity to support local businesses.

Sunday Sept 11, 12-3pm: Community Salmon Watch Day at Bush’s Pasture Park

If you are curious about Pacific Salmon and their freshwater habitats, come walk the path at Bush’s Pasture Park on Community Salmon Watch Day and learn about these awe-inspiring fish and what makes them special, explore the key characteristics used to determine stream health, and visit with Claudia Chinook – the largest salmon around!

Visit with the various experts at your own pace and for as long or short as you like. Everyone is sure to learn something new!

Sunday Sept 11, 6:00pm: Riverfront Family Night with special guest Randy Ruiz

Let’s come together on Sunday, September 11 at 6 PM for Riverfront Family Night with special guest Randy Ruiz. We will have worship service in the park and will seek God for influence in our families and community. Invite someone to come with you as we lift up the name of Jesus in the heart of our city.

There will be activities for the kids. Cookout food will be served. Bring your own lawn chairs or blankets for seating.

Sunday Sept 11, 6:30pm: Wine & Dine Movie Night at Northern Lights Theatre Pub

An evening of delicious food; great local wine and an awesome movie as Northern Lights Theatre Pub and Miller’s BBQ present the Wine & Dine Movie Night. Your evening will start with a sampling and pairing of BBQ prepared by Miller’s BBQ and local wines from Ocelli Cellars. After sampling, you’ll be able to choose one as your full BBQ dinner and drink to enjoy while watching a movie.

Northern Lights Theater Pub has been a staple of the Salem Area since 2004. After a 2 year closure the recently reopened and remodeled theater has returned to provide the Salem area with affordable entertainment.
